The standard letter grade scale
This calculator uses the common US scale: A 93–100, A- 90–92, B+ 87–89, B 83–86, B- 80–82, C+ 77–79, C 73–76, C- 70–72, D+ 67–69, D 63–66, D- 60–62, F below 60. Each letter also maps to grade points used for GPA.
Near a boundary, one point changes both the letter and the grade points. 89% is a B+ worth 3.3 while 90% is an A- worth 3.7, a gap that shows up in your GPA far more than it does on a transcript. Check whether your course rounds before assuming which side of the line you fall on.

- On this scale, 60% (a D-) is the lowest passing grade, though many programs require a C (73%) or higher.
- Is there a grade above 4.0?
- Not on the standard unweighted scale, where an A is the maximum at 4.0 and an A+ usually counts as 4.0 too. Some colleges award 4.3 for an A+, and weighted high school scales reach 5.0 for AP or honors courses.
