In summary: Type “hello world” and you get HELLO WORLD (uppercase), hello world (lowercase), Hello World (title case) and Hello world (sentence case). All four conversions appear at once, so you can copy the one that fits your headline, filename or database field.

The four case styles

UPPERCASE raises every letter (HELLO WORLD) and is used for acronyms and short labels. lowercase drops every capital, useful for tags and email addresses. Title Case capitalises the first letter of each word (Hello World) for headlines. Sentence case capitalises only the first letter after each full stop (Hello world) and is the standard for body copy.

All four results render together with their own copy buttons, so you never have to convert twice. The conversion happens entirely in your browser: the text you paste is never uploaded, transmitted or stored on a server, which matters when the headline is still confidential.

When you need something similar but not identical, the text reverser is there.

When to use which

Most style guides (AP, APA) prefer sentence case for subheads and title case for main headlines. Databases and URLs prefer lowercase — for a URL-safe version, run the text through the slug generator instead. Avoid long stretches of uppercase: readers scan them 10–20% slower.

As a rule of thumb, use Title Case for H1s and buttons, sentence case for H2s and meta descriptions, and lowercase for slugs, tags and email addresses. Uppercase suits a two-word badge such as NEW, not a full sentence.

Notes on accents and small words

Accented characters are converted correctly, so café becomes CAFÉ. This tool capitalises every word in Title Case, including short words like “of” and “the”; publisher style guides often lowercase those, so review headlines by hand. To check length limits afterwards, use the character counter.

Frequently asked questions

What does “hello world” look like in uppercase?
HELLO WORLD. The same text in title case is Hello World and in sentence case Hello world.
What is the difference between title case and sentence case?
Title case capitalises every word; sentence case capitalises only the first word of each sentence.
Does it handle accented letters?
Yes. Accented letters convert correctly in both directions, for example café to CAFÉ.
Does it lowercase small words in Title Case?
No, every word is capitalised. Adjust short words like “of” or “and” manually if your style guide requires it.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so the text you paste is never uploaded, transmitted or stored. Once the page has loaded you can even use the tool offline.
How this tool works

The formula behind this tool is written out in full in the sections above, so you can check the maths yourself. Every calculator on Calculorium is verified against worked examples with automated tests before it is published, and pages are reviewed as formulas or standards change. Nothing you type is sent anywhere — the calculation runs entirely in your browser. Read how we build and check these tools.
